Frederick Bliss was born in Toronto on 1 March 1901. He was apparently orphaned, and lied about his age in order to enlist in the 222nd Battalion at Winnipeg in 1915. For most of the First World War he served overseas with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion. He was discharged on 31 March 1919, and re-enlisted with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry on 24 November 1920. By 1926 he was promoted to Sergeant. He was commissioned in 1942 and served in Canada with the 10 Ordnance Depot Company. He retired from military service in 1948 with the rank of Captain. He worked as a purchasing agent for a hospital in Victoria, B.C. in 1956-1966. He was still living in Victoria in 1985.

Bloom, Harro Sten

Harro Sten "Harry" Bloom was born 18 June 1940 in Tallinn, Estonia. The family fled to Germany in late 1940 after Russia invaded Estonia. In July 1949 he emigrated with his family to Canada, settling in Montreal, Quebec. He was a member of the Royal Montreal Regiment of the Canadian Army (Militia) from 1956 to 1959. Selected for officer training at the Royal Canadian School of Infantry, he graduated in August 1960 and following parachute training ZD 8463 Harry Bloom joined the Second Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Edmonton as a platoon commander. While attending Junior NCO School, Bloom was also a Platoon Commander (instructor) at the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Depot at Wainwright, Alberta from 1961-1963. Bloom was promoted to Lieutenant 1 March 1963 and posted to the First Battalion. With the First Battalion Lieutenant Bloom was posted to Fort McLeod, Germany 16 August 1964 as part of the 4th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group until 18 October 1965. While there he acted as Liaison Officer at Headquarters, 4th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group. Bloom returned to Canada in October 1966 and was promoted to Captain 1 May 1967. Captain Bloom served as second in command of a rifle company and then as transport officer, completing a tour with the First Battalion in Cyprus in 1968. He was then posted to Tactical Headquarters in 1969 and served as Headquarters Commandant at Training Command Headquarters in Winnipeg. He was then posted overseas in November 1972 to the United Nations Truce Supervisory Organization in Pakistan, where he saw duty in both Syria and Israel. A year later he was transferred back to the Second Battalion and served as Adjutant in Winnipeg in 1975. Captain Bloom returned to Staff College in 1976 and graduated the following year. He was assigned to National Defence Headquarters in 1977 as Staff Officer to the Associate Assistant Deputy Minister and was promoted to Major in September 1978. In July 1980 he returned to the First Battalion as the Officer Commanding Admin Company and then was appointed Regimental Major and Aide de Camp to the Colonel In Chief in August 1981. In 1983 Major Bloom was posted to Ottawa Militia District as the Chief of Staff and served there until he was transferred to the Directorate of Individual Training at DND. Major Bloom retired from the regular force in October 1988 and accepted the position of College Administration Officer of the Canadian Emergency Preparedness College in Arnprior, Ontario. He also served as Operations Officer for the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. He retired from the military in July 2000 and served as the Vice President East of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Association as well as President of the Ottawa Branch.

Brause, Morris

Major Morris Brause was Second in Command of the First Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Croatia, from January to October 1994 and Regimental Major at Garrison Edmonton from 1998 to 2000.

Broom, Zeph Porter

124056 Zephaniah Porter Broom was born 7 November 1889 in Tennessee and worked as a cabinet maker in London, Ontario before the First World War. He enlisted as a Private with the 70th Battalion 12 October 1915 and joined the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in the field 9 June 1916. He was wounded 15 September 1916 during the Battle of Fleurs Courcelette and was Struck Off Strength from the Regiment 24 September 1916. He was still with the 3rd Canadian Division in May 1917 but with a different regiment. Later in 1917 he joined Company C of the 117th Infantry of the United States Army, saw action with this unit, and was promoted to Sergeant. After the war he married Bessie Lee Mikels and settled in Knox County, Tennessee. They had three children, Mary Rachel, Charles Richard, and James Robert. He died in 1979 in Knox County, Tennessee.

Brown, George Grenville

Born 17 June 1922 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, George Brown was educated there and in Regina. He attended Royal Military College, Kingston, from 1940 to 1942. He was commissioned in the Seaforth Highlanders and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and North Africa. In 1943 he joined the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in Italy. He was wounded in 1944 and rejoined the Seaforth Highlanders in April 1945 in Holland. Brown was transferred to Princess Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) in 1946 and served with the 2nd Battalion in Germany. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1962, he commanded the 1st Battalion PPCLI in Victoria and Germany until 1965. Brown was promoted to Colonel and Chief of Infantry at Mobile Command headquarters in 1966. He was promoted to Brigadier-General in 1970 and appointed Chief of Staff for Operations, Mobile Command. In 1970 he was promoted to Major General and Chief of Land Operations, National Defence Headquarters, and in 1975 he was appointed Deputy Commander, Mobile Command. Major General Brown retired from the Army in 1977, and served a six-year honorary term with the PPCLI as Colonel of the Regiment. In 1983 he became Vice-Patron of the PPCLI Association. He died on 14 March, 1995. He was married to Constance Brown and they had three children.
