Carvell, George Cecil

George Cecil Carvell, was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on July 20, 1882. He later lived in Toronto and Montreal, and was a merchant, according to his attestation papers. He joined Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) on August 24, 1914, and held regimental number 136. He was soon promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant, then to lieutenant, as Transport Officer, then to captain as Acting Adjutant. In February 1917 he was seconded to supervise the Chinese Labour Corps. He was struck off strength on April 16, 1918, and served with the Intelligence Branch of the British government with the rank of Major in Tientsin, China. He returned to Canada in 1923 and died in Vancouver, BC on December 16, 1925. On August 15, 1916 he married Ruby Eleanor Coates, and they had one daughter, Eleanor Katherine, born October 14, 1917.

Carvosso, James

51116 James Husband Carvosso was born 19 June 1891 in Dartford, Kent, England and immigrated to Canada in 1910. He enlisted as a Private with the 23rd Battalion 3 November 1914 and joined the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in the field 1 March 1915. He rose in rank quickly due to prior officer training and was commissioned as a Lieutenant 16 October 1916 (eventually making Acting Captain). He was wounded 5 times before being accidentally injured 14 April 1918. He served with the Regiment through the remainder of the First World War and was Struck Off Strength 20 March 1919. He received the Military Cross for his actions at Vimy Ridge and the Bar to the MC for actions during the Final Advance to Mons. Following the War he remained with the Regiment, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before he retired in 1942. Lieutenant Colonel Carvosso passed away 10 April 1977.

Chatry, Harry

Harry Stephen Chatry was born 2 April 1926 in Delisle, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Army 12 April 1945 and was posted to Vernon, British Columbia to become part of the Pacific force. The Second World War ended before he was posted overseas and he elected to remain in the Permanent Force. He was badged to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Shilo, Manitoba in January 1946 and was promoted to Corporal in 1947. He was posted to Currie Barracks in Calgary in 1947 and made Company Orderly Sergeant. When the Regiment went Airborne in 1948, Corporal Chatry was chosen for Glider pilot training and was sent to the Royal Canadian Air Force School of Aviation Medicine in Toronto and then to Rivers, Manitoba for flight training. He graduated from the #1 Glider Pilot's Course in 1949 and returned to Rivers to join Glider Flight and instruct other pilots. Promoted to Sergeant in the early 50s, he closed Glider Flight in 1955 and returned to Calgary where he was appointed Acting Company Quartermaster of A Company, Second Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Promoted to Staff Sergeant in 1956 Chatry was posted to Camp Borden as Small Arms Instructor. Posted back to the Second Battalion in 1964 he joined Reconnaissance Platoon and after a jump injury was attached to the Loyal Edmonton Regiment for almost a year. Returning to the Regiment in 1965 Warrant Officer Chatry was posted to the 4th Canadian Infantry Brigade in Germany as Brigade Sergeant Major. Later that same year he was transferred to the First Battalion and posted to Hemer, Germany where he was in charge of C Company and then Headquarters Company. When the First Battalion rotated back to Canada, Warrant Officer Chatry stayed in Germany with the Second Battalion, later returning to the First Battalion now stationed at Currie Barracks, Calgary, Alberta in 1968. After working at Regimental Headquarters for a year, Harry Chatry retired from the military in 1969 and settled in Sardis, BC. He was married to Hope Chatry, and they operated several businesses in the Chilliwack/Sardis area. They had three children, Gordon, Leslie, and Sharron. Harry Chatry died 23 April, 2018.

Christian, Thomas Fargher

Thomas Fargher Christian was born 2 May 1895 in Ramsey on the Isle of Man and immigrated to Canada in 1912. Working as a labourer in Lethbridge, Alberta, he joined the 13th Canadian Mounted Rifles 5 February 1915. #552392 Private Christian transferred to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry 21 September 1916. Promoted to Lance Corporal 31 March 1917, he was wounded 9 July 1917 and Struck Off Strength 20 July 1917. He remained in England convalescing and then as as part of the Reserve until 23 June 1919 when he returned to Canada. He demobilized 7 July 1919 and worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad after the War. He passed away in December 1983
