William Gourlay Colquhoun fonds

The fonds includes 2 portraits of Brigadier Colquhoun, and a portfolio of 20 photographs of the V-E Day and V-J Day parades at Debert Camp, Nova Scotia, 1945. Includes a résumé of Colquhoun's military service (1906-1937) and two newsclippings about him. The scrapbook, which may have been compiled by Mrs. Colquhoun, contains 128 photographs reflecting his military service in England; at Debert Camp, Nova Scotia; at Camp Nanaimo; at Vernon Camp; and at Camp Wainwright. It includes souvenirs of King George's visit to the 1st Canadian Division (24 January 1940) and the inspection by Lady Patricia Ramsay (10 February 1940). It includes newsclippings about the London Blitz; the PPCLI Women's Auxiliary; Debert Camp, Camp Nanaimo, and Vernon Camp; PPCLI operations in Sicily and Italy; and about individual PPCLI soldiers, 1939-1946.

PPCLI Colonels of the Regiment photo collection

The honorary title of Colonel of the Regiment (CoR) of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) was initiated by the Regimental Executive Committee (REC) in October 1958, with permission of Army Headquarters. The title was limited to serving or retired officers of PPCLI holding the rank of Colonel or higher. The CoR participated in parades and other ceremonies, and was an ex officio member of the REC. The founder of the Regiment, Brigadier-General A. Hamilton Gault, was the first to hold the title, however, he died in the same month as his appointment, November 1958. He was succeeded by Major-General Cameron Bethel Ware, who held the title from 1959 to 1977. Thereafter, Colonels of the Regiment were appointed for 3-year terms, which could be renewed once. The collection consists of formal portraits of Colonels of the Regiment, and photos of them in ceremonial and other situations. The photos are grouped into series by their names in consecutive order: Cameron Bethel Ware, George Grenville Brown, William Benjamin Scott Sutherland, Reginald Stuart Graham, Herbert Chesley Pitts, C. William Hewson, A.J.G.D. de Chastelain, Robert I. Stewart, J.E.L. Gollner, Raymond R. Crabbe, W. Brian Vernon, Vincent W. Kennedy. Includes Col. Sutherland's collection of historical photos.

The fonds contains 8 photographs of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry officers prior to inspection by Lady Patricia Ramsay at Seaford, Sussex England and prior to embarking for Sicily in June 1943. Also included are 2 photographs of Lieutenant Gordon Smith wounded in Sicily, 2 of him sketching and resting during a bivouac, one of his friend Capt. George Corkett; an obituary of Rowan Coleman; a 1996 photocopy of regimental history pages which mention Gordon Smith; and 3 messages delivered to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry while enroute to and after landing in Sicily, June/July 1943. Includes 4 photographs of wartime paintings, an autobiographical sketch, and a reminiscence on the invasion of Sicily. Includes 2 photos of him at work in his art studio in his late 90s; and obituaries written after his death.

John Graham Wallace Mills fonds

The fonds contains Wally Mills's obituary and elegy, military certificates and Military Cross citation (1943-1969), Israeli driver's licence (1969), song sheets, regulation manuals, trooping programmes and 98 photographs chronicling Mills's military service. The photographs include some images of Lance Corporal Mills in England in 1942, the Second Battalion in Germany 1953-1955, Recruit Classes from May 1964 to February 1967 and group photographs of the staff at the Canadian Joint Air Training Centre from c1959 to 1966. Also included are a collection of photographs of an overseas United Nations tour, probably Pakistan. Includes a hand-made poster presented upon his retirement from Edmonton Public School Board (1984).
